PARENTS

This course consists of eight modules of on-line class work and six hours behind-the-wheel in-car instruction. It will be conducted using the curriculum developed and prescribed by Doniphan County West High School .

Module assignments will be available to students after they register for the class. They can reivew and download all assignments from any computer that has internet access. Communication can be done via the telephone, e-mail, and the on-line discussion board.

The vehicle to be used for driving instruction has a dual-brake control and other safety requirements as prescribed by the State of Kansas . A cell phone will be available in case of emergencies. The goal of Driver Education is to prepare competent and skillful young drivers. It is most important, therefore, that the student be allowed to practice in the family car until she/he masters what has been taught. This is where parents/guardians have a great part to play in the satisfactory completion of the training. You are asked to cooperate by providing the opportunity for such practice.

Your attention is drawn to the fact that students in this program will need a Learners Permit. Students under the age of 15 with a Learners Permit can only drive when accompanied by a licensed driver at least 18 years old.

The only cost to Doniphan County West students will be the usual cost of a license. The student's own ability and desire to learn will determine whether she/he is able to pass the final test.

Drivers education is the most important class your child will ever take. You can make a difference in what they learn and how well they learn it. The biggest advantage of home study drivers education is that you can be involved and help them learn.
