| Our
goal is to help develop safe and responsible drivers who use strong,
defensive driving skills.
NEK Driving School offers a drivers
education program to any student over the age of fourteen (14).
Parents are encouraged to be involved with the student’s education
and help them successfully complete the class.
I. Class
Eligibility: Students can enroll after their fourteenth
(14) birthdays provided they have a learners permit or farm permit
from the Kansas Department of Motor Vehicles.
II. Classroom Schedule and
Requirements: Class will be scheduled on the first Saturday
of each month unless a conflict or holiday falls on that Saturday.
Students will be required to attend eight hours of classroom
instruction. The eight hours will be divided into four sections:
- Basic Driving Skills (Driving Risk and
Developing Visual Habits)
- Traffic Laws and Signs (Communicating
and Adjusting Speed )
- Driving Interactions (Margin of Safety
and Driving Emergencies )
- Alcohol, Drugs, and Social Pressures (
Safe Vehicle and Keeping the Driver Fit )
A test will be given during each
section, and the student must receive a minimum of 80% accuracy.
Lunch will be provided on the day of
class.
III. Testing: In
order to pass the classroom phase, a test over each session must be
passed with a minimum of 80%. If a student does not receive a 80% on
any session test, they can retake the session test. All classroom
tests must be passed before driving can begin.
IV Driving Requirements:
After all classroom work is successfully completed, each student
will be required to complete six hours of behind-the-wheel
instruction. A final driving evaluation will be given during the
sixth hour of driving. If a student cannot satisfy the requirements
or perform a task without the instructors prompt, the instructor
will require more practice before a completion slip is given.
Additional hours of driving requested by
the student or parent will be at their expense at $50.00 per hour.
V Driving Evaluation: A
student must perform the required skills without prompt from the
instructor to master the driving requirements. A student is not
guaranteed a completion slip unless they can master the driving
requirements.
VI Driving Arrangements:
Students will be picked up at and returned to a location agreed upon by student and instructor at the time driving is scheduled.
VII Discipline: Due to
the serious nature of the material covered and the safety of others
in the class, inappropriate student conduct will result in dismissal
from the driver education program. No refund will be given for any
students dismissed from the class.
VIII Parent Involvement:
Parents are encouraged to take an active role in the learning
process of their student by providing additional supervised driving
opportunities.
IX Class Completion:
After successfully completing the eight hours of in-class
instruction with a minimum of 80% accuracy on the four classroom
sections, six hours behind the wheel instruction, mastered the
requirements at a good or very good level without instructor
prompting, and pass the final driving evaluation, a student will
receive a certificate of completion. This certificate of completion
in conjunction with 50 hours of logged time with a 21 year old adult
will allow the student to apply for a full unrestricted license at
age 16.
X Special Needs
Students: Reasonable accommodations will be given to
students with special needs.
XI Cost: Instruction for
each student, to be paid prior to class, will be $350.00 for those living
inside the Atchison city limits; $400.00 for those living outside the Atchison city limits.
XII Refunds: Prior to
the classroom instruction, 100% of the cost can be refunded. Fifty
percent can be refunded prior to the first driving session. All
refunds will be sent to the address provided on this agreement.
